Richard Colligan (Owner/Founder) of Metropolis Vintage and the East Coast Connection (@freshkillsvintage/@futurepastnyc) come together to bring to you the Mosquitohead interview live from Metropolis Vintage in New York City. They are joined by special guests Robert Brandt (founder of Mosquitohead) and Richard Allen (original Mosquitohead employee.)

Throughout the interview founder Robert Brandt gives the history behind Mosquitohead, from its conception, its success, and gives insight behind the journey of Mosquitohead. Along with Richard Allen they also discuss the design process and what went into the curation of some of the incredible pieces released by the brand.

To give a brief overview, Mosquitohead was a clothing brand established in 1986 in Los Angeles by Robert Brandt and his business partner Paul. At the time Robert and Paul noticed a huge gap in the market for rock merchandise and counter culture shirts. They noticed a lack of design concept and in the words of founder Robert Brandt  “No culture behind what was being made.” This led to the very beginnings of Mosquitohead. The brand is best known for their counter culture aesthetic, and incredible design with their all over bleach prints. Today they are some of the most, if not the most sought after collectable t-shirts in the vintage community. They were one of the first collectible t-shirts to break the $1,000 barrier and till this day there is an allure and mystery behind these t-shirts. Watch this amazing interview to get an in-depth look behind the story of the “Legend of Mosquitohead.”

“T-shirts don’t just come from the air. Behind every great t-shirt is a person/ideas/company/ and designers. The reason Mosquitohead lasted the test of time because it was great art.”

HAWAIIAN SHIRTS at METROPOLIS VINTAGE

Aloha! It may be 5,000 miles away, but METROPOLIS  has all the Hawaii you need. Though the traditional Hawaiian Aloha shirt is considered
formal wear in Hawaii, here on the mainland we’d have to recommend you keep them for the beach and not the job interview. Whatever the occasion, it’s
a classic style and always an eye-catcher. Our racks are bursting with color so come on down and get a piece of the action!

Just getting STARTED with more of our STARTER JACKETS

You, the people of METROPOLIS, tell us what you like, and hands down, one of the major league favorites of recent years has been the STARTER JACKET.  Teams? Leagues? Sports? It doesn’t matter, it’s about the player, not the game.  It’s about looking good while supporting your team.  We’ve got a huge amount of STARTER and other sports jackets from the ’80s and ’90s.

THE RISE and RISE of HIGH WAISTED JEANS at METROPOLIS VINTAGE

HIGH WAISTED JEANS

You may call them “Mom Jeans”, but they’re one of our most popular items for girls of all ages!  Originating in the 1940’s as a way to keep the modern woman looking “modest” in a pair of jeans, the High Waisted Jean Craze really hit it’s peak in the 1980’s.  Nowadays, they’re back in action with a bit more versatility –  a reaction to the skintight low-risers of recent yore.  You might not have noticed that waistline creeping up on you, but these High Waisted Jeans are very flattering indeed, as evidenced by these shots of our favorite model, Ophelia. These pairs of High Waisted Jeans and many more are waiting for you at METROPOLIS VINTAGE.  Why not stop by and try some on?
