Whether you’ve found yourself diving head first into Y2K-era trucker hats and low-rise pants or tend to keep it timeless with classic staple pieces, a bit of nostalgia is the coolest way to complete any stylish fit.

METROPOLIS VINTAGE CLOTHING

Known for its celebrity clientele – including power-couple Rhianna and A$AP Rocky – Metropolis Vintage is primarily known for their 90s nostalgia aesthetic and huge selection of vintage t-shirts. First operating out of flea markets across the city in the 80s, founder Richard Colligan’s concept came to fame when his first brick-and-mortar opened in 1990. Now, in addition to stellar band tees (which are sectioned off similar to a record store – by genres, artists, and era), shoppers can explore loads of leather and letterman jackets, sports jerseys, and accessories.

CARHARTT DOUBLEKNEE PANTS

One of our most popular racks at Metropolis Vintage has always been the vintage Carhartt section, however you may be surprised to learn that it is not just the classic jackets that are such popular sellers, but the lower half as well. The popular Carhartt pants have evolved over the years, just like their customers have. Their vintage, heavy double-knee pants, reinforced with extra fabric for durability in the workplace, have taken on a new life as their rugged-yet-eye-catching design results in a streetwise and fashionably unique look for the man and woman on the street!

Vintage t-shirts have become more than just collectibles but are now a big staple in fashion and pop culture today. With the ever-growing demand for vintage clothing the vintage market has expanded along with this increase for vintage fashion. Retailers such as Urban Outfitters, and Nordstrom have dipped their toes into vintage but not quite like the recent J. Crew capsule collaboration with Metropolis Vintage. The capsule features a full collection of original curated vintage music tees ranging from as early as the 1970’s. Each piece was specifically chosen to go with their new concepts and bring new life to the brand as they target a younger audience. It is great to see the impact vintage clothing can have on big retailers and its influence on fashion as a whole.

The full collection is currently available at J. Crew’s Brooklyn location on Wythe Avenue.

Recently owner of Metropolis Richard Colligan hopped on a call with Bidstitch to discuss his thoughts on this most recent dive into this huge retail market space.
