ED HARDY T-Shirts won’t fade from METROPOLIS VINTAGE

You likely know Don Hardy from his work as a stand out tattoo artist throughout the ages. His associations and mentorship from the famous Sailor Jerry, the way he brought original design to tattoo work in an era when many were simply doing flash work. His signature style, where bits of Japanese aesthetic crept into his work, influencing countless others. What you may not know is that Don Ed Hardy licensed his name and work into a quite popular tattoo themed shirt series of the ’90s, of which we have a full selection of here at Metropolis Vintage!

East Coast Connection Vol.2

East Coast Connection is a collective comprised of @futurepastnyc, @freshkillsvintage, and @metropolisnycvintage. The goal of East Coast Connection is to bring people together in the vintage world, hearing their stories, and building connections that go beyond just business. East Coast Connection Vol. 2 went down on May 30th live from Metropolis. Some of the best vintage t-shirt dealers from all over the country came together under one roof for an amazing experience we like to refer as “The New York t-shirt exchange.” It’s where instagram meets real life. Where new connections and friendships are made that creates an experience like no other when it comes to vintage clothing in New York City. East Coast Connection Vol. 2 featured 15 vendors from all over the country for a one day event. Vendors brought out their best shirts for everyone to see. Some of the best t-shirts or “grails” you only see online or in pictures were on display during East Coast Connection Vol. 2. Buying, selling, and trading went down throughout the event and many left with a smile on their face. This was one to remember and just one of many East Coast Connection installments. We would like to thank everyone who took part in this and made ECC Vol.2 an amazing event. See you at ECC Vol. 3!!!

Mosquitohead Interview

“The Legend of Mosquitohead”

Richard Colligan (Owner/Founder) of Metropolis Vintage and the East Coast Connection (@freshkillsvintage/@futurepastnyc) come together to bring to you the Mosquitohead interview live from Metropolis Vintage in New York City. They are joined by special guests Robert Brandt (founder of Mosquitohead) and Richard Allen (original Mosquitohead employee.)

Throughout the interview founder Robert Brandt gives the history behind Mosquitohead, from its conception, its success, and gives insight behind the journey of Mosquitohead. Along with Richard Allen they also discuss the design process and what went into the curation of some of the incredible pieces released by the brand.

To give a brief overview, Mosquitohead was a clothing brand established in 1986 in Los Angeles by Robert Brandt and his business partner Paul. At the time Robert and Paul noticed a huge gap in the market for rock merchandise and counter culture shirts. They noticed a lack of design concept and in the words of founder Robert Brandt  “No culture behind what was being made.” This led to the very beginnings of Mosquitohead. The brand is best known for their counter culture aesthetic, and incredible design with their all over bleach prints. Today they are some of the most, if not the most sought after collectable t-shirts in the vintage community. They were one of the first collectible t-shirts to break the $1,000 barrier and till this day there is an allure and mystery behind these t-shirts. Watch this amazing interview to get an in-depth look behind the story of the “Legend of Mosquitohead.”

“T-shirts don’t just come from the air. Behind every great t-shirt is a person/ideas/company/ and designers. The reason Mosquitohead lasted the test of time because it was great art.”

Feel good in one of our vintage ’90s SILK SHIRTS!

If you want the ultimate in comfort AND style, come down to Metropolis Vintage and try on one of our luxurious early 1990’s silk shirts. If it looks like our model here is enjoying himself, you have no idea. We had to pry the poor man out of that silk, and then finally promise him we’d find more in his size.  As it stands, there’s a fine crop of colorful, soft silk shirts waiting here for you that don’t quite fit him.  They were a staple of early ’90s life, and now you can revive, relive and create new memories in one.  Nice and lightweight for the summer months!
