Nobunny May 21th

As scene in The FADER Magazine

STORY BY: Kayla Monetta

FADER contributors cross boroughs, counties and states to find fine thrifted and vintage pieces on the cheap for our column, Thrintage. This week, Kayla Monetta hit up the East Village to check out Metropolis Vintage.

Walking into this store is like a time warp back to an edgier St. Marks, bringing back predominately ’80s inspired prints and styles sprinkled with a western feel, stuff you can imagine old-school East Village kids wearing. Metropolis is a bit pricey, but everything is one of a kind so it’s worth it.

Metropolis is the very first vintage store that I fell in love with when I first came to the city. I saw some gorgeous boots in the window and I wandered right in. Turns out, Metropolis is famous for carrying about a billion vintage boots and adding aged gold studs to them. Boots are in the $50 range, but the popular lace up studded versions can be up to $195 a pair.

Both leopard print and floral-lined jean jackets are what I would call ’80s masterpieces.

Liz Clairborne vintage floral dresses are always a summer staple, and Metropolis delivers some amazing prints. This Navajo styled shirt is another summer look.

Cheetah print floral lined jean jacket: $45.00

Vintage lace-up boots with aged studs: $195.00

Jean dress with studs: $35.00

Floral dresses: $35.00

Navajo inspired collared shirt: $19.00

Vintage Mountain printed jacket: $55.00

BOY LONDON CATALOG

We here Metropolis are always on the look out for what made the past interesting. Hands down BOY LONDON did make the fashion scene interesting in the 80’s. May be the Vanilla Ice look did not age well, but any thing that is on the head of  Andy Warhol will always get our seal of approval here at Metropolis ENJOY!

SARAH shows us how to model

Every Vintage Store needs direction and for METROPOLIS our leader has been this lovely lady SARAH, for many of the past years all what we do comes from following how and why she wears her clothing and shoes. Thanks Sarah for all that you have given to us here at METROPOLIS.
