Metropolis opened up our basement for a big party to celebrate the release of the new Iggy Pop solo LP, with a sneak preview of the accompanying all-Iggy issue of Punk Magazine by our long-time pal, artist John Holmstrom.

Selected pages of Punk #22 were on display, various East Village luminaries were in attendance, and the beer and fun were flowing.

We caught famed rock photographers Godlis and Roberta Bayley, and a motley assortment of rockers, artists, cartoonists, DJs and punks. METROPOLIS VINTAGE CLOTHING

Known for its celebrity clientele – including power-couple Rhianna and A$AP Rocky – Metropolis Vintage is primarily known for their 90s nostalgia aesthetic and huge selection of vintage t-shirts. First operating out of flea markets across the city in the 80s, founder Richard Colligan’s concept came to fame when his first brick-and-mortar opened in 1990. Now, in addition to stellar band tees (which are sectioned off similar to a record store – by genres, artists, and era), shoppers can explore loads of leather and letterman jackets, sports jerseys, and accessories.

Drew Heifetz of F As In Frank and Richard Colligan of Metropolis Vintage, came together to have an in-depth discussion covering all things vintage. Together the two have endless knowledge on vintage clothing and they love to pass it on to people who appreciate it. In this open discussion the two touch on topics concerning the changes of vintage clothing, how to survive in the vintage business, the trends that control the market of vintage clothing, and much more.

Heifetz is the owner of F AS IN FRANK Vintage and Frankie Collective, and the founder of Bidstich. F As In Frank is a vintage clothing store located in Toronto and has been the city’s best array of one-of-a-kind vintage clothing. Frankie Collective is an online retail store dedicated to innovating women’s streetwear taking inspiration from 90’s staples and reworking vintage garments. Drew has been involved in vintage clothing for over 15 years and says he’s loving every minute of it. Drew shares his knowledge through his podcast, Vintage n’ Stuff, and youtube channel F as in Frank.

The Ramones tour manager Monte A. Melnick and Founder of Punk Magazine John Holstrom sat down with ECC (East Coast Connection) to talk about the history of The Ramones T-Shirt. Tracing back to the beginnings in a loft on 4th street all the way through to the final tour 2,263 shows later. We spoke about how Arturo Vega (The Ramones Artistic Director) came up with the original concept of the eagle and how it changed into the well-known logo of The Ramones. Richard Colligan (Owner of Metropolis Vintage) is the host of the conversation. Richard brought along his extensive collection of Vintage Ramones T-Shirts displayed throughout the entire interview. With the days getting colder and shorter, the good folks at Metropolis Vintage and Brooklyn Fireproof are practically doing a public service with their upcoming night of hot, sweaty rock n roll from Detroit to keep us out past curfew. From the Motor City come four bands and guest DJ Mick Collins (Gories/Dirtbombs) to help you shake off the chills and get in the groove with some booze drenched garage punk mayhem.

Next up you have the Terrible Twos who will immediately up the dose of snotty, chaotic and brazen punk from a bump to a few lines at the very least. These rapscallions make quite the pleasing ruckus that blends manic vocals, damaged/delightful punk and a ferocious organ into a perfect storm of off-kilter craziness. Their LP on X!/Criminal IQ Records is a fine testament both to the legacy of their hometown as well as their own ability to reinvent the out of control style Detroit has honed for decades.

Timmy Vulgar is practically a household name to weirdo-punk aficionados. Since his days fronting the futuristic mutant noise that was Clone Defects, and now the equally deranged and inventive Human Eye, Vulgar has been quite busy. Not enough, however, to stop him from a solo-project under the moniker Timmy’s Organism. With the LP Rise of the Green Gorilla recently released on Brooklyn-based Sacred Bones label, Timmy’s Organism bring a bizarre batch of punk mystery that mixes elements of Chrome, Beefheart, Pere Ubu/Rocket From the Tombs along with Vulgar’s own unique blend of bleakness and twisted melodies. Truly an incomparable frontman with a sound that can only be hinted at, Timmy’s Organism promises to be a sight and sound not to be missed.

As we begin to ease towards the later part of the evening, drink in hand and mind still partially unblown, Tyvek will be taking the stage to finish the job with an onslaught of frenetic rawness that’s as demented as it is danceable. For the past six years these upstarts have consistently let their jagged guitars cut a swath across the ear canals of listeners with a style that heaps all things punk from the free-loving sixties to the me-generation eighties. Keeping the spirit of things loose and loaded, Tyvek promise to take us down a catchy road of psych-punk euphoria.

As if this wasn’t enough to make you lucky schmucks shill out the eight bucks for the evenings festivities, Guest DJ Mick Collins of Gories and Dirtbombs acclaim will be spinning the hits all night. A living legend and a true tastemaker in the garage punk underground, Collins will keep things raucous and rowdy all night long.

If you foolish enough to work Sunday mornings you’d better call out sick or quit altogether. Saturday Nov 20th promises to be, amongst other things, an epic squall of battered punk fury, a booze drenched party of shaking and stomping and a momentous celebration of all things Detroit in our own Brooklyn backyard. Don’t miss out!
