“I am Denzel R. and I manage the store Metropolis Vintage, a vintage shop that sells clothing from decades dating back from the 1990s to the 1940s. I specialize in dating and sourcing vintage T-shirt from concerts. I also am an avid collector myself and spend a lot of time sourcing these pieces that gets harder to find as the years go by.”

Get inside the mind of DENZEL R. with this new in-depth interview for Proper Spirit’s Locale series – “VINTAGE TALKS WITH DENZEL R.”. Denzel discusses growing up as a New York City native, his personal style, how a background in graphic design led him to the world of t-shirt art, his best and rarest finds, the stories behind some of his wildest pieces, his views on sustainability, and what the future might hold for him. You may have already seen the news, but the sensational ROSÉ of BLACKPINK stopped into Metropolis the other day to search out some new pieces. She was all smiles, no pink venom anywhere, just oversized jackets, posing in our dressing room and dancing in front of the mirror.

METROPOLIS DESIGN-A-T-SHIRT CONTEST Celebration!

We at METROPOLIS VINTAGE are happy to report that our first DESIGN-A-T-SHIRT contest was a resounding success. The quality, ideas, and creativity were all incredible and it was quite a struggle since every one of the submissions was cool in its own way. Our staff finally agreed on a favorite and the prize went to local multi-media artist DANIELLA D. DONATELLE, also known as 3D! Check out some of her work HERE!

The top three honors went to STEVE ELLIS, JACKIE VINSON, and SAMAY DHAWAN for their amazing work. Here’s Jackie with her wonderful design.

Iggy Pop/Punk Magazine Party at Metropolis!

Metropolis opened up our basement for a big party to celebrate the release of the new Iggy Pop solo LP, with a sneak preview of the accompanying all-Iggy issue of Punk Magazine by our long-time pal, artist John Holmstrom.

Selected pages of Punk #22 were on display, various East Village luminaries were in attendance, and the beer and fun were flowing.

We caught famed rock photographers Godlis and Roberta Bayley, and a motley assortment of rockers, artists, cartoonists, DJs and punks. EVGRIEVE swung by to cover the event, we’ve included some photos by Stacie Joy below, but you can check out the entire article HERE. Thanks to everyone for hanging out!
